Cattle Baron

I remember being 10 years old and how good the hot rolls and butter at the Black Angus tasted. I also remember the unique feel of that steak ranch and what a treat it was to go there with my folks! Last week I was transported back to my childhood when I took my family to eat at the Cattle Baron Grill House at the Sunridge Village Shopping Centre.
From the moment we stepped inside, the dark leather seating, dark wood décor and mood lighting ambiance brought all those great memories back and I knew we were entering a quality steak ranch. We were quickly shown to the family table we’d booked and our drinks order was taken. Our two boys then rushed off to explore the Playstation and DSTV-equipped kiddies’ area.
From the menu my wife chose the Pork Filet a la Maison (fillet medallions served on a bed of mash, with feta, pepadews and herb butter) while I decided on the Sirloin Nevada (300g steak topped with bacon, avo, camembert and toasted onions). For the boys we ordered a chicken burger and chicken fingers (both with chips). Waiting for our order to arrive, we sipped our drinks while enjoying each other’s company and relaxing to the gentle mood music playing in the background.
Impressively, our meals arrived without much delay, their presentation being surpassed only by the enjoyment we experienced in eating them! The pork medallions were tender and my steak, combined with the flavour of crispy bacon and onion, was divine. The boys somehow also managed to polish off their ample helpings.
Being too full for a cooked dessert, we opted for Dom Pedros and the boys had the kiddies’ Mix-o-Treat, a unique dish comprising your choice of up to 3 scoops of ice-cream, accompanied by a potpourri of 9 different toppings. They loved it!
Our bill came to R500 on the nose, including drinks and a tip.
All in all, the Cattle Baron offered that special occasion feel for a memorable night out in celebration of an achievement by one of my boys. We all enjoyed our meals and will recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to do the same…
