220/230 volts 50 Hz. The electrical plug system is different to most other countries and it is suggested that an adaptor is purchased prior to arrival or on arrival in South Africa.

STANDARD TIME
Throughout the year South Africa is 2 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time, 1 hour ahead of Central European Winter Time, and 7 hours ahead of the USA’s Eastern Standard Winter Time.

TIPPING
If their service is satisfactory, it is customary to tip caddies, taxi drivers, hotel and railway porters, chambermaids, stewards, waiters and tour guides. The accepted average is 10 – 15%.
